BAPTIST ACADEMY

Mission Statement:

The purpose of Baptist Academy is to provide a Christ-centered education.  We truly believe that our school was generated in the mind of God and directed by the Holy Spirit.  Founded in 1971 by Dr. Clinton O. Hale, our purpose is to train and prepare students to succeed in life from a Biblical point of view.

PROFILE

LOCATION

Baptist Academy has been providing education since 1971.  BA is located on the southeast side of Indianapolis near Beech Grove.  Students come from Marion and surrounding counties: (Martinsville, New Palestine, New Whiteland, Greenwood, and Beech Grove).

FACILITY

The school includes kindergarten for 3, 4 and 5 year olds, elementary, Jr. high and high school.  The school also contains one computer lab, one science lab, one elementary gym, one high school gym with regulation basketball court and weight room.

SCHOOL SYSTEM

BA has students in K3 – 12.  Total enrollment is 300 with 80 students in high school.  The total faculty and support staff numbers 33.  BA is a ministry of Villa Baptist Church and is governed by our pastor who is acting president, a board of Christian business men, and the administrator.  Faculty members are certified by the AACS.

PHILOSOPHY

Baptist Academy is a ministry of Villa Baptist Church.  Statement of Faith available upon request.  It is intended that each student will obtain a Christ-centered and Biblically integrated education with an emphasis on academic excellence.

ACCREDITATION

Baptist Academy is an independent Christian School and is accredited by the State of Indiana.  We are a member school of the American Association of Christian Schools.  Seventy-five to eighty-five percent of our high school graduates attend 4-year colleges and universities such as Baptist Bible College (Springfield, Missouri), Bob Jones University, Cedarville College, Clearwater Christian College, Cornerstone College, (Grand Rapids, Michigan), Crown College, (Powell, Tennessee), Franklin College, Grace College, Hanover College, Hyles Anderson, Indiana University, Indiana University/Purdue University, Indiana Wesleyan University, Iowa State University, Liberty University, Maranatha Baptist Bible College, Olivet Nazarene University, Pensacola Christian College, Purdue University, Taylor University, and University of Indianapolis.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Students enrolled in our high school must complete a minimum of 44 credits.  BA offers a general program and a college preparatory (core 40) program.

STANDARDIZED TESTS

Baptist Academy administers the Stanford Achievement Test and the Otis Lennon School Ability Test in grades K5 – 12.  The grade equivalents for each grade (spring 2006) were an average of 1.69 grades above the national norm.  National percentile average – 84.51.  The ISTEP is administered to grades determined by the administration.

We also administer the PSAT/NMSQT in the 11th grade.  Preparation for the PSAT is done in the Junior English class.

Baptist Academy encourages students to take the SAT and/or ACT in the 11th and 12th grades.  Students are prepared for this test in our Family Living class.

 CLASS RANKING

Due to our small class size, Baptist Academy does not rank students except for Valedictorian and Salutatorian designations.

 

GRADE POINT AVERAGE

Grade point averages are figured at the end of the 9th, 10th and 11th grades. 

Senior’s grade point averages are averaged at the end of the 7th semester and end of the 8th semester.  Our school does not exclude courses from the computation of grade point average.

 EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Athletics

BA offers a wide variety of sport activities for our students. Girls compete in Volleyball (JV and Varsity levels); Basketball (Varsity); Softball; Cheerleading (JV and Varsity).  Boys compete in Soccer (Varsity); Basketball (JV and Varsity); Baseball.

 Academic Meets

Baptist Academy participates in Academic Meets sponsored by the IACS (Indiana Association of Christian Schools).  Our students enjoy academic competition in the following categories:  Bible Quiz; History, Math, Science, English, Home Economics, Music Theory, and Business testing; all areas of music including instrumental and vocal; all areas of Art.

 Student Government

Each High School class has a set of officers elected by fellow students to serve as President, Vice-President, Secretary-Treasurer and Chaplain.  We also have a student council made up of the class officers in grades 9-12 and a representative from grades 7 and 8.
